Privacy Policy

Overview

Cozy Shelf is a personal book tracker: build your library, track your reading, keep quotes and notes, and style your shelves. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how you can control it.

Data We Collect

• Account information — Signing in is optional. When you sign in with Apple or Google, we store your user ID and email address to identify your account. Without an account, an anonymous identifier keeps your library on your device's session.
• Your library — The books you add, their reading status, progress, ratings, notes, quotes, and shelves are stored on our servers so they can be backed up and synced.
• App preferences — Settings such as your chosen theme, shelf styling, and reading goal.
• Purchases — Whether you own the one-time theme unlock. Billing itself is handled entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• Location data
• Contacts or photos
• Browsing history
• Advertising identifiers

Camera & Search

• Barcode scanning — The camera is used only to read a book's barcode, on your device. No images are uploaded or stored; only the resulting ISBN is used to look the book up.
• Book search — Your search text and scanned ISBNs are sent to ISBNdb, our book database provider, to find matching books. Searches are not linked to your identity by us.
• Cover images — Book covers are loaded from external sources such as ISBNdb and Open Library.

How We Use Your Data

• To store and display your library across sessions and devices
• To calculate your reading statistics and goal progress
• To remember how you've styled your shelves

Third-Party Services

• Firebase Authentication (Google) — Used for secure sign-in. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
• ISBNdb — Used to search books and look up scanned barcodes.
• Apple In-App Purchases — The one-time theme unlock is billed entirely by Apple. We do not see your payment details.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, share, or provide your personal data or library content to any third parties. Your library remains private.

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on secure servers. Your library is associated with your user account and is not accessible to other users. Communication between the app and our servers is encrypted via HTTPS.

Data Deletion

You can clear your data or delete your account and everything associated with it (library, notes, quotes, preferences) from within the app's Settings. Once deleted, your data is permanently removed from our servers.

Children's Privacy

Cozy Shelf is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated through the app.
